Chairman's message

Dear Member

Fakenham Gardening Club - 2024 Update from the Chair

I hope you all enjoyed the Christmas break and on behalf of all the Committee members, I wish you all the very best for the year ahead.

Well, what mild weather we are experiencing – our plants are very confused. I have had primroses out since before Christmas, my hazel has catkins and lots of shrubs and trees are budding up. It will be interesting to see what the year ahead brings in our gardens.

We closed our 2023 programme with a very successful and well attended AGM, with a fascinating and interesting talk from Andrew Sankey about Mrs Willmott and her influence on gardening. The existing members of the Committee were all reappointed and we are pleased to welcome a new member, Gillian Cook who we hope will be taking on the Exhibits Secretary role. We are also very pleased that Gordon and Martin have also
agreed to continue as President and Vice President of the club.

Our 2024 programme starts with our Subscription Afternoon on Saturday 13th January at the Fakenham Garden Centre at 2:00pm. We look forward to seeing you there, where you can renew your membership, and meet fellow members and Committee
members. Colin Walker, a long standing member of our Club, and a judge for the Norfolk and Norwich Horticultural Society, will give a short talk on "Growing for Showing – the Basics"

Details about the 2024 calendar of events will be available during the afternoon. As well as our usual three Gardening Fayres, we are planning visits to gardens and plant nurseries.
There will also be our "Autumn Socials".

Our Annual Dinner will be on Saturday evening 3rd February at the Gallow in Fakenham.  Details about the cost, choice of menu, together with how to book will be sent out shortly by Jane. Last year, those who attended said they enjoyed the quiz, so we will
be repeating that this year too. So please come along, again it's a great opportunity to
meet other members.

In the meantime, enjoy this spell of mild weather and wishing you happy gardening in
2024!

Best wishes

Andy Grout
